Easy Speaker replacement
Got plain tired of listening to the rattling and distortion of the factory Porsche speakers in my 2000 911 C2 Coupe. I did alot of research on what speakers are a "Direct" replacement other than Porsche Speakers. No such thing. So i looked at Pioneer, Kicker, Bose, Etc, all upper end speakers with prices to match. I was in a Car Stereo shop this past Sunday, I had one of the Porsche Dash Speakers with me. I picked up a speaker made by VR3 (Virtual Reality Sound Labs) and it matched up perfect. The rear speakers are the same as the dash so i bought 2 pairs.
To install the speakers you need to cut away the speaker from the mount, then cut the metal tabs from the VR3 Speakers, Set the VR3 speakers into the Porsche speaker mounts, epoxy them in place and wait until the epoxy is cured. Cut off the Porsche speaker wire clip, strip back @ 1/8" wire from the speaker wire you cut the clip from , attach the supplied speaker connectors ( Make sure you match polarity), Attach the new speakers to the Porsche Speaker cover, attach the speaker wires/connectors to the VR3s, screw in the Speaker Cover to the dash/rear mounting holes. You are done. My total time to attach the VR3 speakers to the Porsche Mounts for all 4 speakers was less then 2 hours. i waited 24 hours for the Epoxy to be totally cured. I finished the installation today and tested them out. NICE, VERY NICE, NO distortion, hiss, rumble, just clean audio. Speakers are rated at 100 watts RMS, 30 watts per channel.
VR3 speakers are 3 way speakers.
Best part about this speaker replacement job was that i got the Speakers for $25 a pair, $50.00 total for all four. The shop owner said he never sold a pair of these speakers in over a year and he just wanted to get them out of his inventory.
The full model of the speakers are:
VR3 RS400 Three way Speakers.
It is SO NICE to drive the 911 with the stereo up again!
