Default Easy Bumper Repair

Recently I was rear ended while driving my 1988 944. The one of the energy absorbers was compacted, which is easy to replace. One of the plastic bumper end pieces was badly bent. The body shop was going to charge about $1000 to make the repairs - including replacing that bent end piece. My car has never been repainted and I wasn't looking forward to having any new paint on the car.

Anyway I was able to heat the bent piece with a heat gun (a hair drier might work). It immediately began to return to its original shape. With very little work I was able to completely remove what looked like a permanent crease. The only new part I needed was an energy absorber ($50.00 from a porsche salvage yard). Anyway the repair was perfect and I got to keep my car as original as possible. I also got to keep most of the insurance check.

Hells yes! [sm=exactly.gif]

But I would have used the insurance $$ to buy a new bumper. Than again I'm uber **** about my exterior.

Didn't need one. She hit the rubber bumper guard (didn't leave a scratch on it). The only paint it would have needed is to match the new plastic bumper end piece to the rest of the car.

Nice Job!! You cant tell that anything has happen to the car from that distance. Does the accident show up if you run a carfax report? That would suck if it does because it lowers the value.

Yeah the paint on these cars is so good you can heat it up and it won't bubble or crack. The plastic bits are also very well made.

the only way a accident will show up on car fax is if car fax is notified of it... in other words car fax is a joke. i mean if you want it to show up all you have to do is contact them but besides that you shouldent have to worry about a thing.

It was a good approach to get the bumper back in shape and save the insurance for yourself. In most of the cases visit to an auto body shop becomes necessary, so it is much better that you can get the corrections done by yourself.
