Default 1986 944 NA Reads HOT

Hi,

I had posted this in the 944 threads but didnt get too much response so figured i would try this here.

I have a 944 that started to overheat, i had the water pump, timing belt, balance belt, several pullys changed, the head shaved, new thermostatand the valves and guides replaced. My wife has been driving it for about a month and it runs very warm, at the 3rd line, right below the red one. I flushed the cooling system, filled with new antifreeze and bled it over and over again. I changed the thermostat again, just in case but now it reads at or on the start of the red line. When you open the hood, it doesnt seem hot, the fans are running, come on, stay on when you shut the car off (they do turn off after a minute or two). I am big into the radio control hobby and have a couple of temp guns. At the top of the engine where the bleeder is, its reading 220 max, the top of the head reads about 195 and the upper radiator hose read 175. Is it possible the temprature sending unit is not good? It does read all the way down when cold and slowly rises. If its possible, where is it located?

Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post, i just wanted to explain all that is done.

I brought it to a local mechanic who works on all cars, he said he has no idea what it up with it also, he has never seen anything like it, circulation is good, at least it seems good with the cap off, you can see the antifreeze moving once it heats up.

Did you use a 50/50 mix, or straight coolant/antifreeze?

Could anyone tell me where the temp sending unit is? Its is possible its bad? it runs now between the 3rd line to the bottom of the red line, my infradred temp. gun says it running at 218 at the bleeder housing, the block reads the same or less, the upper radiator hose reads around 180. Doesnt seem like those are hot temps, the fans are coming on and stay on when the car is shut off.
