Engine Oil Leak 98/99 - 996
Hi,
I've just sent my 911 Cab (996) in for a service and they have advised me about an engine leak (Rocker Cover) etc.
They (Porsche Australia) are quoting 12 hours for the main seal to be replaced along with various other parts, in addition 4 hours to play with/replace the o'rings seals etc.
The engine obviously needs to be dropped - is this realistic?
Would appreciate some advice.
Chris

No, then engine does not have to be dropped to do the RMS (Porsche thinks it does for some reason) It is a 12 hour job book time, most dealers are doing it for 8 hours. Book time and Porsche state that you have to drop the motor to get into the clutch. This is far from true.
I can do a C2 or C4 in 2 hours, and a TT in 3.
Typically the cam covers do not leak themselves, but the orings on the spark plug tubes instead. That is about 4 hours.
