I am new to this site. I am looking into buying a Boxster (not older than 2003, because I don't like the plastic back window) and I did test drive a few recently. I do have a question about spare tire. If I am correct, started 2005, Porsche removed the spare tire and replace with a pump and a tire repair kit. Driving without a spare tire is a little concern for me. I would like to hear from the 05, 06 Porsche owners to share their stories. Did you guys encourter big problem when you have a flat? or no big deal.... Does the repair kit works well??? Some of my friend own a 2003 Boxster said the Bosxter tire may not be available at the tire shop all the time, when he need to replace his tire, he has to wait a week. May Hawaii is a smaller State, they don't stock that many "Sport tire"

PS, any one know if the 2007 Boxster include the tire monitoring system as a standard equipment or still an option?

 

Porsche also offers road side assistance on those vehicles, so usually they will come out and take care of you if you get a flat.

 

The rear plasticwindow bothered me also. my 911 is a 1999 model with the plastic rear window. I have had the car since mid 1998 and it sat outside most of the time. The window looks brand new no haze or browing.

Now here is where i go off the deep end and add 2+2 and get the wrong answer. My friend bought a 1995 911Cab and the plastic window was opaque. He got a price from Porsche to replace the window for $5,000. This was in 1999. My quess is the chemistry that Porsche uses on the rear plastic window is better than their and everyone elses and their older cars. I do not know only know mine is still perfect.

i just got a flat tire last night in my 05 C2S Cab and realized there was no spare. The kit did not work. It ruined my night. Instead of a 15 minute spare change, I had to wait for a tow and go back home. I am now selling my 911 over this one issue b/c I WILL NOT deal with it again. Even my Viper came with a spare. If I wanted to deal with inconveniences like this, I would have gotten the F430.

 

I've driven about 100,000 miles in the past several years in various cars without a spare: '02 ZO6, Porsche, and now my Aston, etc. My Porsche had the mini-spare but I never used it. Had only one flat (in the Carrera) I called prsche service: they came out the took off the wheel, ran back to the store and replaced the tire and returned, charging me only for the tire. Took about an hour was all. Expensive (I believe they charged $400+ dollars for a tire I could have found for about $325) but not a real hassle.
