930- low performance and occasional oil smoke
Purchased my first Porsche - a 1988 factory930 turbo slantnose cabrioletwith a 3" exhaust system, other wise stock. Good bleed down, clean plugs, noisey turbo. Found KK turbo was damaged, so I bought a custom blower designed to spool-up quicker. Installed a 1g spring, cleaned the waste gate, installed SC cams, springs, etc. Seals looked good, bleed down was good and consistant cylinder to cylinder. Went throught the ignition, injectors, etc, everything looks great. Car starts and runs nice, although the idle is a little lumpy, I assume from the SC cams which were recommended to me. Hereare my problems:
[ul][*]Lower than expected performance. Turns on at 4400 rpm, pulls hard to 7000 until rev limiter cuts it out, but as a way of an example, even at a full 1g of boost at say 5500 rpm, depressing the accelerator to the floor does not result in any sudden burst of power, like a high hsp.normally aspirated car would. None the less, it does not pull like expected.[*]Oil smoke comming from the exhaust...sometimes. When started. When downshifting to launch into hard acceleration it will smoke for the first 200 feet or so then it burns clean. Sometimes for no reason at all there is a sudden puff of smoke for a few seconds then it clears up again.[*]Were the SC cams a mistake?[*]Should I go back to a stock blower?[/ul]
Thank you
