996 Strange Starter Problem
New member, first post:
I have a 1999 911 Carrera, manual transmission, Type 996 I believe. Since the weather turned hot it has started doing something strange. If I drive around in the heat, then turn it off, then try to start it again, the starter does not respond. Once I turn the key, all other electrics come on, but the starter does not respond. Nothing. This has happened a couple of times lately. I don't drive it every day.
Here's the truly strange part: If I let out the clutch, open the door, close the door, and depress the clutch, the starter will engage and the engine starts. I have verified this by trying it three times on different days. Just letting the clutch out and and depressing it again does not work. I must also open and close the door.
I live 90 miles from the dealer, and am now nervous about driving it.
I would appreciate any thoughts on what could be causing this.
Thanks,
Joe
