random power loss
hi,
i bought an '83 924 over christmas and have been giving her some deserved attention since. didn't know anything about cars before, but i am learning quickly now. i have given her a full service, set the timing, cleaned the injectors, replaced the spark plugs, the distributor etc looks very new so I left that. She drives incredibly well (except for a slight steering wheel shimmy above 60mph probably due to incorrectly balanced wheels (the tracking has been laser set).
sadly, every 10miles or so, she loses power for 5 seconds (the lights stay on, but the rev metre drops to 0 even thought though the engine is definitely still turning, then she carries on again if you're doing 60, but if you aren't moving or are going slowly, (eg in traffic) she will stall. she idles at about 800rpm usually, quite smoothly. she sometimes misfires after the power loss.
can it be poor earthing to the engine? a lack of fuel getting to the cylinders (i thought 'no' as she sometimes misfires after)? something in the ignition?
to be honest this is getting beyond my learning curve now,and any advice would be great!!
the only other problem is that she occasionally loses the headlights stop working while driving (though other lights remain on) and i have tried clening the contacts, switch, earthing etc, should i just try to do that again?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
