Default My 1977 Porsche 911

Hi everyone,

My 1977 Porsche 911 is having some clutch trouble. It only shifts when the clutch is really high. Do I need a new clutch? Or is this a problem that just needs some adjustment. It also idles really high, I don't know if the two problems are related or not. Glad to be apart of this forum.

With regard to the clutch:

1. First test: With the car off and in neutral, measure the free-play. It should be about 1/2 “. That is from the clutch fully engaged; there should be that free-play before it begins to move the clutch cable. There’s a distinct change in the pressure required from one status to the other.
2. Second test: With the car in 1st gear and the car running, how far from the floorboard does the clutch have to come up before the car begins to move?
3. Do you know if the clutch had been previously replaced yet?

The high idle might be too much air volume going though the injection system. Have you tried adjusting the idle screw. I assume it's CIS injection, correct?

Thanks Chuck I adjusted the idle screw and can now regulate the idle it was a simple and easy fix. The clutch had to go to a professional to fix.
