New member with 996
Good evening to all, I recently purchased a 2000 996 cab with 9450 original , one owner miles. carfax is clean, car is immaculate and has been running strong for the last 200 miles I have put on it. Interior, engine bay and undercarriage definitely indicate it's prior history. everything seems to be working. one key head is inop and a local porsche tech here in Miami pointed out to me a small 2 mm area of the plastic window that needs immediate attention ( new top on order), so this car won't see rain if I can help it.
the car is a blast and a pleasure to drive.....
looking to upgrade to some nice 19's in the future, and not do any other upgrades to exhaust, heads, tails or turn signals ( yes, the pumpkins stay for now) I am not looking forward to storing all the original parts just yet.
Car handles great for me now, but suspension mods, lowering, will come in due time. I am moderating the need for speed as I age..I got enough with my other vehicles.
I do have prior wrenching experience on mostly American hi-perf vehicles
( 04 Mercury Marauder, 02 S/C'd Harley F-150, 07 N/A Harley, 67 Camaro RS, etc..)
Any info on electronics, interior, maintenance I will be looking forward to reading and learning...
ride on.... Ed.

Welcome. You have a nice car. For what it is worth, my experience would be to just leave the car stock. Maybe new wheels and tires, but even that . . . ?
I had a 2004 996 for three and a half years, and it was a good car, a daily driver that was a fairly sweet car. My satisfaction with it might have something to do with the fact that I left it absolutely stock: not only is modification expensive and a hassle (re-programming, various incompatibility issues that always come up, storing the old parts as you say) but as you know there is literally no end to the modifcation ladder and more and more of it takes the car more extreme and less useable/less applicable daily.

thanks, yes it definitely crossed my mind to leave it stockfor now. If I do upgrade to 19 inch wheels, they would be OEM Porsche or very similar. I have some floor mats on order so that I can store/protect the original blue ones it has now. the car is Arctic silver exterior, blue interior, blue top. the car is alot of fun to drive, so I'm guessing it may get 2-3K miles a year. My DD is an 07 Harley edition F-150, which I'm only averaging 6K mile a year. (everything is pretty close in my hood) and I work 24 hour shifts, 2 days a week.
other than that, keeping the car clean and riding with the top down when the opportunity arises...
