Default Porsche 3.2 starting problem

Hi everybody,

I have just bought my first Porsche a 86 Carrera 3.2, I flew from QLD aust to Melb VIC bought it and drove 2000km's without a hitch, the next day I am having trouble with the ignition, all mechanicals sound fine but at one stage I would turn the key and all the lights and everything are ready to go but when you turn to start there is a buzzing noise and nothing!!
After several attempts (one time 10mins) the car would engage and spring to life - could it be starter/solenoid maybe?

Any help would be grateful.

Regards

Nigel Dutton

I am far from an expert but have the same car and engine in Cabriolet. I have had it for 8 years and driving has never been so much fun, enjoy but don't over steer. I have experienced a few 360 surprises when I put on too much power at the wrong moments.

I too have had starting problems from time to time. I change a fuse in the engine compartment on the left side. From recall, I think there are 4 little fuses under a cover and you may find one blown, I think it is to the fuel pump. Good luck.

Check the battery connections, the Positive cable has some accessory wires on one side with a nut. Often some one will loosen it by mistake, the clamping nut is on the other side. Also sometimes the ground cable looses contact inside the clamp-- replace the ground cable. If this doesnt fix your problem then it could be a bad battery or yes the starter. Good luck.

Thank you for your advice, it appears that it could be the battery isolater on the earth, I have removed it and so far so good!
