I am interested in what other people consider to be the most beautiful production cars ever built: Show cars and concepts don't count here, I'm interested in cars that were sold for street use. Beauty (whatever that means) is the only thing I'm considering here (e.g., the Mangusta had treacherous handling but it was much prettier than its successor, the Pantera, which was a much better car, similarly, the Cisitalia had on 65 HP but set the styling pardigm for performance coupes for five decades thereafter).

My list, which probably says as much about me as about cars in general:
I've also added the color that I think of them as most beatufil in as that probably has an influence on "beauty."

1950 Jaguar XK 120 convertible - British racing green
1954 Lincoln Continental coupe - white or light blue
1955 Porsche 550 Spyder - silver

1970 Maserati Ghibli - gray metallic
1993 Jaguar XJ 220 C - very dark blue/black

The 10 most beautiful cars...ever? That's a tough one!...

...I've had a look in a couple of books that I have and narrowed it down to 25 cars...

Out of these 25 I've tried to pick my top ten, but it's hard. With some cars certain parts of their design is beautiful while the rest of the car is ordinary, while other cars are beautiful from a certain angle only, others look great in the flesh, but ugly in photos etc!

Anyway, here goes....

Wow, that's a very good list. It really is hard to narrow it down to just a few, isn't it?. I particularly love the DB4 Zagato, and the GT40 and the Miura are favorites. I had forgotten that the Jag SS was a production car . . . all just gorgeous.

You know, what is interesting is that on my list and yours, we have more cars from Jaguar-Aston Martin (4 on yours, 3 on mine) which of course is now part of Ford, than any other company. Not sure if that is significant but its interesting.

 

Me, too, but they don't quite make my list of ten best. They are so much prettier than the Ferraris.

 

Yes Lee, that's interesting and I've just noticed that the first 5 cars on my list are a curvy design and the next 5 are a wedge type design. (Even though I never consciously set the list out this way.)

What would also be interesting to know is....What do you think are the 10 most ugly cars ever designed? (I think I may have owned a few in the past!) [8D]
