1986 911 - Restoration Advice
Hello everybody,
My family has had a 1986 Porsche 911 for roughly 23 years. When my father purchased the car it had just been in an accident and was repossessed by the bank due to faulty insurance. At the time of purchase my father was very good friends with an avid Porsche restorer in the metro Detroit area, unfortunately during the restoration the two got in a disagreement and the car has since sat in the garage at my parents house ever since (roughly 15 years).
This is where it gets sticky. I am now of age to take on a project car (26) but I'm not sure if it is really worth it and I need your advice to swing me one way or the other. Should I go get it and start fixing or should I sell it and buy something else? Please Help!!
Here is the repairs that need to be made:
1. Repair minor body damage to rear quarter panels
2. Paint rear quarter panels and rear deck lid
3. Replace window regulator in driver side door
4. Re-install driver side door cover and replace any missing parts (since its removal in 1989)
5. Drop engine and transmission and do full cleaning and tune up
6. Replace or repair gas tank (small rust hole)
7. Re-install rear bumper
8. Purchase new tires
9. Replace breaks and probably break system
10. Replace/repair center dash piece (that covers radio), this was damaged during a faulty theft attempt back in the late 80's
I have attached some pictures of the sadness as well for your viewing pleasure. Let me know what you think and thanks in advance
