Default 1999 -996 C4 general questions

Picked up the subject car yesterday have the following questions

1. How do you set the radio station buttons (yes I am a moron I know)
2. Are there any performance chips that are suggested for this car to improve bottom end?
3. There is a button on the consol that has a pic that kinda looks like a key sorta but I have no idea what is does.
4. What is the best and cleanest looking radar detector?
Thanks in advance

Hi Scott,

1. When you are on a radio station, push and hold the # you want to set the station to, IIRC the sound will cut out after a few seconds, then come back, indicating the station is set. It's been awhile since I have messed with one, but that is what I am remembering.

2. There are numerous companies out there that can flash a new program into the car, but on an NA car, expect only about 10hp at a price tag of around $1000.

3. Central locking for the doors

4. Depends on what you want and what you want to spend. If you want a unit that just attaches to your windshield or sun visor, then look at the Valentine V1, Escort 8500/9500i, or the Bel unit. Figure around $400 for that setup. All have an optional small concealed display unit, but you still have the detector hanging off the windshield. If you want a more concealed unit, then look at an Escort SRX system which is radar/laser detector, plus it has the shifter technology, which more or less makes you invisible to radar and laser guns (signal goes back to the gun scrambled, so they can't get a speed reading). Figure about $1000 plus install (front/rear shifters/sensors mount in the bumpers, so it takes a few hours to install). We do a lot of the SRX systems.

2. 1000 is a lot for only 10 extra ponies. Any other ideas for more low end?
3. Yes that is correct thanks
