Default 2001 996 Turbo Coolant Leaks

I've had my 2001 996 turbo for about a year now and am facing my 2nd coolant leak. The car has approx 5500 miles on it, I bought it with 3000. The first leak was a fitting between the two radiators in front of the car. Now, I have a new leak which is dropping clean coolant right behind the rear drivers side wheel. So far, it's not a major leak, but I'm wondering if this is occurring because the car sat so much before I purchased it? I had the car checked out mechanically, all the fluids changed, etc and have had it in for servicing without any problems, but is this something that happens to cars that have sat too long, or is it just a characteristic of the first year of porsche's water cooled turbo? I plan on taking it in to get fixed, but just sort of curious now that I have had two issues in 10 months.

thanks in advance for any advice or feedback.

This happened to my 1999 Porsche 996 last year. You need a new coolant reservoir tank which cost around $300 if you do it yourself. The placement of the tank above the hot muffler is what causes this to happen to the origingal tank design.

I too have a 1999 996. It sounds to me like the reseviour tank might have been overfilled a bit. Did you add any coolant? If it were me I would just keep an eye on it for a while, and see if the drip continues. When my coolant tank was replaced, it also gave false readings to the temperature gauge.

good luck,

Kevin
