Default Best Tires for a 996TT

Wanted to know what you guys thought are the best tires for a 996TT.

Currently have N3 spec Pirellii Asimetrico's and need to get new front tires. Specifically looking at summer, dry weather driving.

Have heard rumors that there are better performace tires out there...???

I prefer BRG G-Force KDs, or KDWs is rain is a frequent factor.

Based on present experience I cannot recommend Bridgestone.

Another question.. The front tire size is 225x40x18 (or is it 225x35x18???) is this the best size? How would a 235 change things?

Anyone had any experience?

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I have these type Pirellis on my 944 and must say that I've had no problems with 'em.

Why don't you phone up Porsche and find out what tyres were fitted when it left the factory? I'm sure Porsche know their stuff and I know that they extensivly research what tyres are best for each model.

Also, I note that you are only planning on changing the front tyres. Having different makes of tyres at each end is okay, but if you are looking for better performance from your tyres, they will work a lot better if you have the same type at each corner!

235's will rub on the front when you are on full lock. As for best tires, I have heard from other TT owners that Michelin Sports PS2s are best.

OK so replaced my front tires with the exact same ones - to match the rears. The Pirelli Asymetrico system 225x40x18 (rears are near-new 295x30x18) and I can't believe the difference! Almost eliminated the understeer I was getting with the old ones - even though the old ones had some tread left. The car is so much better balanced now.

I'm wondering if the summer heat here in Vegas affects the tires and reduces their grip. I had experienced this with another car I had - bought new tires and the grip was incredible but after a summer had notably less grip...

Anyway now I can get smooth 4-wheel drifts and some progressive oversteer instead of annoying understeer - so I'm much happier!
