Default Carrera 3.2 exhaust popping

I am new to the forum but not to 911 ownership. Currently I havea 1987 Carrera 3.2 and have been experiencing prolonged and inconsistent popping from the exhaust. From cold it will pop a few times and when warmed up will run for 15 minutesbefore thepopping startsagain but inconsistently. It is also missing at the lower rpm's when it warms up in any gear, when it hits about 3500 rpm it kicks in strong. Any one have any ideas what may be causing this?

How many miles since the last valve adjustment and/ or tune up?

I would look for exhaust leaks first, then have your CO checked and adjusted.

Thank you, I will start there and update this forum with the results. This can't be an isolated problem, I had a later model pull up beside me at a traffic light a few days ago doing exactely the same thing but didn't get a chance tospeak with the driver. Is there an adjustment I can do myself on the car before taking it to a mechanic, I am reasonably handy around cars or is it not worthwhile trying myself?

The CO needs to be adjusted via a CO meter stuck in the exhaust. The adjustment is simple, but without the meter and knowing the cars, you can do more damage than good.

Some popping is going to be normal in the older cars, especially with an aftermarket exhaust.

OK again thanks, what I am good at is taking advice from those that have more experience than me! I will run it into a Porsche shop. It has had a test pipe installed in place of the catalytic recently as its only modification.
