Default differential issue

Hello,

I've got '02 911 carrera for 1 year. I bought it with 33000 miles and it has 45000 miles today.
There is a sound that I ear all the time. Its frequency goes up and down with car speed. It does not depend on gear engaged. Gears shift perfectly.

During maintenance I asked the tech to have a look on it. He suspected the differential, flushed the oil and found some particles.
He says:
- transmission can't be repaired because particles went everywhere and could have lead to other damage.
- transmission needs to be replaced and Porsche offers a 50% discount on parts.

Do you know in which case transmission can be repaired?
Do you think I should replace it or ask for a repair?

Thanks for your advises.

It's a manual 6 speeds.

The costs would be $5000 (50% rebate on parts included)

Drive it 'til it breaks down. Flush and change the trans oil several times over a period of 3,00 miles or so. I've seen cars with metal particles in the trans go 30,000 miles.
