engine noise 2003 911
i just recently started getting this whirling noise from my engine which increases when i accelerate. sounds like i'm driving a diesel.
i've had a few people give a listen and they seem to think that the bearings in the compressor or alternator pulley are going bad.
anyone else ever have this problem? can the pulleys be replaced separate from replacing the alternator or the compressor?

RE: engine noise 2003 911
I have a 99' 911 and over the past few months, my engine seems to be making more noise when I go over 35mph. It seems to be tied to the transmission somehow, because when I push in the clutch, the noise goes away. I don't think it's the actual engine. The car shifts fine and evrything.
I took it to a local shop and the guy drove it and said it sounds like the main bearing on the transmission shaft (whatever thatis). he said I need a new transmission ($7,000). My car has about 80kmiles on it, but I can't afford to dump $7k into it.
Is this similar to yours??
