Default Extended warranty vs cost of repair

Who has purchased a Porsche (any model) with extended warranty or bought an after purchase warranty. How much did it cost and how much did the repairs cost during the life of the warranty? Was it worth it?

Hi I purchased my 996 C2 in the UK with a Porsche Extended Warranty (For cars upto 9 years old and upto 120K miles) and I renew it annually for circa GB£ 875 or say US$1700. Now with all insurance if you dont need to use it you feel it was a waste of money. However there was a lady on a UK Porsche Forum who did not renew her extended warranty, anda camshaft snapped in two. She now wishes she had paid out the GB£ 875!!!
So its a question of choice really. But for me as an engine/transmission failure are big bucks, so I'd have it.
Regards Big Bob

I think it depends on how much the extended warranty costs, what it covers, and most of all the condition of your car.... my $02.

Agree. I'm getting quotes of $4-5K for 3 year extended warranties. I don't drive my car much, don't drive it hard, don't have the RMS issue yet at 49K miles. I guess engine failue would exceed that cost. I found one company that will ensure the engine and transmission and that was a bit cheaper.
