Default help! have some general questions about porsches

hello, i was just wondering about a few things. i am considering buying a pre owned porsche in the future and have questions about their longevity and durability.i don't make that much money, but i have seen porsche 911's that are around 7-8 years old with 50-70k miles for around 25-30k which is my price range. i was just wondering if porsches have a long life span?if i got a 8 year old porsche that had around 70-80k miles on it would i be able to drive it for a good 5-7 years getting the miliage up to 130-140 without major problems? do porsches start having major problems after around 100k miles? how often are repairs needed for an 8-12 year old porsche? are repairs very costly? what is the gas milage for the 911 v6? thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions, any help i can get is much appreciated.

Porsches are very durable if well cared for, and expensive to repair if not. This means you really check the car out, and look for signs of abuse or neglect, ignoring minor things which can be fixed at little cost.

so you are saying a porsche getting around 10-12 years old with over 100k miles is still going to run great with little repairs or major servicing if taken care of during its life? what are some things to look out for to determine wether the car has been taken care of or abused...i am guessing the service record but what else. thanks for the help i appreciate it

I would highly recommend paying, to have a car you are serious about buying, for a pre purchase inspection by a dealer or independant Porsche shop that you trust.

As with any 100k+ mile car, you need to budget for repairs and maintenance. Just because it says Porsche, doesn't mean it isn't subjected to wear and tear.

I have 10 vehicles including one Porsche. In my view they are very reliable. Mine is a 1999 911 CAB and i picked it up in late 1998. I have never had anything go wrong with the car. JD Power rates Porsche as #2 for the first five years of relaibility. As a comparison Lexus is #1 and Toyota is #11.

I have a freind who had a older 911, 1975 or so and he put 325,000 miles on it. He bought a 1995 (993) 911.

I think you can buy more car with less money than you state. I have seen the 1995-1998 933version of the Porsche 911 go for $28-35k. These with under 50k miles. my 1999 is only worth $35 or so. I think they are bullet proof.

I would recommend a 1995 or newer. The cars before that are a little harsh to drive, exciting but tough. The 993 version is awesome and had the major chasis change that contiuned with some evolutioary change till the new 997 came out in 2005. I like the 996 but if you look at those you might want a 2002 or newer they made some significant engine changes.

Good luck.

Lee
