Almost any good modern car including the Porsches has an engine control module good enough to sense low octance fule and back off on the timing, etc., to adapt to the fuel quality. You lose power, sometimes a lot, and responsiveness, but in a pinch the thing will go without any real damage to the engine. Still, I would not push my luck if forced to tank up with a few galloons of sub-par fuel: don't floor it and don't go to high RPMs.

Recently Ford re-rateda number of its cars for regular vs. what had previously called for only premium fuel. It made no changes in the cars, just rated them at the HP they produce on regular (255) vs. if you fill the tank with premium (265 or something). They still tell you the Hp you get if you use the premium, but now rate the engines on regular. It's a marketing gimmick - the cars can use regular fuel because the ECMs adjust timing, but you lose a bit ofpower and they have to advertise only the HP the engine can produce at the rated fuel type, but, that is cheaper and more desireable in a time of high fuel prices thanthefew ponies they give up claiming.

Scott, Don't drive your self crazy. I'm willing to bet you will not notice any difference between the 92 octane you use and 93 octane. I asked a friend who is a petro-chemical engineer and he laughed..Your 92 is just fine..

If you really worry you can buy octance enhacncer, an additive, at the auto parts store. One bottle per tank will add severalpoints of octane. I doubt you need it, but if it worries you carry a bottle in case you hear pre-detonation, then add it until you can get some better gas.
