The 4 round (or semi round) outlets are x-50 tips. It is a popular upgrade for the non x-50 cars, so you can't base the package just from the tips.

Oh, and a pre-purchase inspection by a dealer or independant porsche shop is highly recommended. It will run about $300

thanks. that's what i was thinking. the one i'm looking at has the 4 tips but the guy selling it did not think it has the x-50 package. i will definitely take it for an inspection by the dealer. the car is certified too, so that's nice. if i have the dealership run the VIN they should be able to confirm x-50 or not, correct?

i know i'm asking a ton of questions....but, i notice some cars have white gauges while others have black. is the significant of an option, specific years, or just an aftermarket accesory?

Better to ask now! I've a silver '04 non-x50, and it has black gauges and two (not 4) tailpipes. too bad the seller doesn't have the original window sticker. i think it should be possible to get quite a bit of detail with a VIN number. Listen to the Doc, get your porsche PPI, totally worth the peace of mind.

okay, i'm going to put an offer in on the 02 i was looking at. it has the x50 tail pipes, but hopefully i'll find out tomorrow when i ask the dealer to run the VIN if it's a true x50. either way, at an asking price of $64k it sounds okay to me. i, myself, work as a dealer and have access to 9 of them at an auction on thursday. i can pick up a comparable one for about $51k. i'm going to put in a cash offer of $55. if not accepted, i'll see if i can pick up one of the ones at the auction. proceed if it passes the mechanical check?

new prospect. obviosuly not x50 due to the tail pipes, but same mileage, one owner on carfax.....sold first with 28 miles, and a year newer. price is basically the same. main difference is color and perhaps x50 package.....

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/car/284443228.html

i'm gonna buy one. please help me determine which one is best.....

Trust me, the owner will know if the car has the x-50 package, it was a very expensive option. I would just assume that anything you look at does not have the x-50 package, as it was not a huge seller.

White gauges are an aftermarket add on.

Also, take carfax for what it is worth. I personally think it is a scam for disclosed information. I have done a lot of PPI's on porsches that had been hit very hard and repaired, and still showed clean carfax reports.

bought the silver '02 today. just got home an hour ago....1:30am pacific time. i went to the auction and the cars were bringing more than what i could buy them for on the private market. i have a paint meter and found most of them had paint work too. i drove the car home 250 miles from santa barbara, california to fresno, california. if any of you know that area, you have two curvy lanes on the 101 overlooking the ocean and then break off into 110 miles of a two lane highway. i'll leave it up to your imagination, but needless to say, driving home through the hills in the middle of the night in a TT was a dream. before i brought the money, i had never even driven a 911. i had so much fun tonight! it's hard because you want to move past people, but i hate to tailgate for comfort and safety reasons and hate rock chips even more. i timed all my passes perfect. all passes were done with class and had to bring enlightenment to those i passed. i guarantee every person i passed now wants a 911 Turbo. i'm 25 and let my 21 year old brother drive the car when we got home. i was driving next to him. i swear, just watching the way that car takes the bumps and squats under hard acceleration is almost as fulfilling as driving it! thanks so much for all the help and advice guys! i got the pre purchase inspection and am very happy with my purchase. i'll post pics soon. pops will be finding out about the surprise tomorrow. i don't what more he could ask for. i'll keep you all updated and hopefully be a participating member of the forum. i'm tired and out for now. 10-4.

The semi 4 that you are refering to is standard on the Turbo (996) and the 2 I think it's call Sports Exhausts, have deeper sound.

Question for Doc. Is there any significant different in values long term between a standard TT and the X50TT(S)? Disrecarding the present market situation.
