Default Newbie Rear Main Seal Question

Ok, new here, new to Porsches and have read a time or two about some models having RMS issue. I have a new to me '02 911. Should I be worried about RMS leak? How do I check for a potential leak? After reading a few posts, it looks like ya gotta have it in the air to check. I'm green but willin to learn.

Cheers

Joe

You will notice oil where the transmission mates to the engine. It is not as common as the internet makes it out to be, I wouldn't be too worried unless you start noticing oil drips where you park. Once it gets to the point of hitting the driveway, it is due for replacement and a new clutch while you are in there. There is really nothing you can do for prevention, if it happens, it happens.

PorscheDoc....thanks for the reply. That makes me feel a lot better. I got the impression at one time there was no "sign" of it failing/leaking/etc. I'll keep an eye on it. But speaking as a new Porsche owner, I can hardly wait to get up tomorrow to drive it. What a fantastic feeling to look forward to backing out of the garage and running around town. Monday morning is good again. Have a good one. Cheers yall.

Joe
