Default oil change frequency

Question:

The 2007 base 911 CAb I just bought has the oil change recommendation at 20,000 miles or two years whatever comes first. The dealer told me the new 2008 Porsche base car has once a year or 11k or so miles. So Porschetook a step back.

So what gives? Is it okay to stay at 2 years or follow the new 1 year warranty policy? I plan on keeping this car for 8-10 years just like the Porsche I traded in. it will be driven every week but not much milage sinceI have many cars to chose from, maybe 3kmiles a year.

Thoughts opinions & experiences are welcomed. It is the base low hp car.

Follow the 1 year policy. 2 years is too long, even sythetic oils have acid build up occur.

I'm not too familiar with Porsche's yet...but i'd change my oil more frequently than that anyway. figure it can't hurt, it could help, it's cheap, and you get to hang out with your car

Shogun,

Agreed but I have 14 vehicles to keep track of so it is a pain.

Thanks for the point of view

With non-synthetic oils,I changed my oil and filter every 3,500 miles. I had a 7 series BMW with 262K miles, and did not use or leak a drop after all those miles.

My business van has 146K miles and does not leak or use oil. Again, it's oil is changed every 3,500 miles as standard oil. Passes smog easily with #'s way below state averages.

New 530i BMW service lights came on at 18K miles.I have had the oil changed 2X's in this period, and it's systhetic oil. I'll now go to 5K miles for oil changes.

My 360 Ferrari is just coming up on 5,600 miles, and I will change the oil this month.

I would never leave oil in an engine more than 7,500 miles if synthetic if you want that engine to run clean.

I am now back to 5K miles for synthetic oil.

Idon't care what owner's manuals or service people tell you.
