Default To PDK or not to PDK, that is the question!

I recently had the pleasure of driving an '09 Carrera S with the PDK transmission, and it truly is one of the most amazing transmissions I have ever used. Lightening fast gear changes, ultra smooth, better and faster than i can shift my six speed. The PDK makes the Tiptronic seem like a child's toy. But here is the question ... does this PDK really represent the true essence of the sports car that the 911 is? With my 6 speed C4S, I feel involved, engaged, an integral part of the whole driving experience. After driving the PDK (and you can really notice the additional 30 horses on the S models!), while I came away in true amazement of this technological wonder, I was a little empty from the whole experience. The car almost felt too perfect. A bit cold and unemotional. The new DI motor doesn't even possess the same gutteral growl that my 3.8L does when you get on the gas above 3500 rpm.

What do others feel about the new 911 with the PDK.

Thanks,

TJP

I know what you are saying about the driving experience. I guess it just boils down to when and where you are driving. I would buy a PDK (not the 1st model year) here in Houston just because of traffic. Clutch in clutch out gets old after a while.

I drove one recentoly and agree, that the new 997 withthe PDK it is a magnificent machine. I also agree that it is a bit too sterile and uninvolving, but I think that about all recent Carreras. In particular, I was stunned when I test drove an Aston Vantage (no faster, by the stopwatch, than a new Carrera) about how much more engaging and satisfying a driving experience it had (that's why I bought it).
