Screechy brakes
Hello,
I've just purchased a 01 996 with approx 12,000 miles and the front brakes are starting to screech at times, minor. Is this normal for stock pads? should I change them out and if so any suggestions. Seems to be pleanty of wear left on the original set.
Anybody else have a similar experience?
Thanks

RE: Screechy brakes
You need to "bed" them. Basically, go to about 80 mph, slam on the brakes. Repeat a few times. This will get rid of the squeaks. But, after time, it will build up again. When it does, do the above.
I read it is because they are built for heavy use and daily driving will cause build up and make them squeak.

Lol, 80 is a little fast.
Drive around with your foot on the brake pedal for about 1000 yards (heats the brakes). Then take your foot off the brake pedal and drive for another 1000 yards (cools the brakes). Then from about 40mph, apply the brakes hard (not hard enough to kick in the abs). Repeat about 3 times and you will be good to go.
