Default Tire Wear

I bought an '01 C4 Cab with 15000 miles. I believe the Pirellis on it were the originals. The right rear tire has the most wear and I'd like to know if that is normal. It now has about 3/16" left while the others have about 1/4" left on them. How much more can I get out of them or are they ready to be changed.

I'm not a tire expert, but getting 15k miles out of performance tires is pretty good. I would recommend that you do yourself a favor and get 4 new shoes. After I bought my '02 Cab from a friend, there were 2 tires that needed replacing. Since my local dealership had a sale of 15% off a set of 4, I got the Michelin Pilot Sport Ribs for the piece of mind and an alignment.

Default C4 Tires

I've read that changing tire sizes on a C4 might adversely affect the ratio between the front and rear drive on my 2001 Cab. I was thinking of changing from 17" to 18" wheels and thought they were offered as an option that year. Anybody have experience with this?

Can someone explain why the rear right wears sooner?

The right rear tire is wearing faster probably because the alignment is out a little bit. You can also check to see the tire pressure is the same in all of the tires, also if the car does not have positraction the right rear will drag a bit when making right hand turns. Most likely its the alignment though...gl

Changing the tire size dramatically can mess with the computer in the car and the transmission. As long as the overall tire diameter is close to the original equipment diameter you should not have a problem changing the wheels and tires...gl

Smile thank you Kensill

I will do an alignment in my '02 S4 Coupe!

I just purchased it about a month and a half ago.

PS - the wheels are still 17s.
