What year 911 should I buy for $15k?
Someone please help out this future Porsche owner. In mid June I will have $15k cash towards buying a used 911 targa or cabriolet. I am new to Porsches and looking forward to hear your recommendations/advice for what years, models are the best value, the most fun and the least troublesome with even higher miles. What should I be on the lookout for? I am not looking for speed, the only mods I am going to do will be suspension, wheels and intake. My girlfriend and I both drive new VW Jetta diesels (40+mpg )as daily drivers, the Porsche, along with our restored and customized 69 Squareback, will be our weekend/nice weather/fun car. I've been searching around the net for while, so far my favorite is the 84-89 Carrera with the 3.2l engine that falls right into my price range with some major rework completed, like this one
Thanks

Hi, I've just checked out the link to the Targa and it looks great! I haven't much of an idea on whether this is a good price, (as I'm based in England) but it seems like a fair price to me!
If you're not after speed, you could also consider the 912. This type of Porsche doesn't have a Porsche engine but has the looks of the 911 and are generally cheaper!
Always get a Porsche checked over by a qualified mechanic before purchase and try and leave some cash spare for matainance!
Good luck!

That's about the going price all a matter of your preference. 5k miles
however, cannot be correct the price would be MUCH higher. It even
says brakes and what at 5k miles replaced. For an 86 something
at that price would likely have 75k+ miles. I have an 83 went for
$12,000 with 104k miles.....but very nicely kept. GOOD LUCK!

Thank you for your replies. Now that I've done some more reading I kind of narrowed it down to 85 and up Carrera Cabriolet (my girlfriend wants a convertible), ultimately an 87 or up with the hydraulic clutch and G50 transmission. I found an 86 red with black interior, factory widebody, European model for $18k with 120k miles. I guess we will see what will be available in 3 weeks when I'll be ready to buy.
Here is a nice example
