1986 944 Turbo
I am considering buying this car for $8600, New plugs/wires....New Belts.....New Rack and Pinion. and most general Maintenance. It has a damaged title and NADA says its only worth $8400 to a dealer in great condition which this one is since it's been fixed.
Around here we don't get too many Porsche's so its kinda just something to throw money into. Its got a Manual Tranny and have 97,000 On it....My question is what should I look for when purchasing a 944 turbo and whats the life expectancy of the 944 turbo engine?

Number one find out if it is really 97K. Mine said 38K, but had rolled over (at least) once and the odometer no longer works, which is quite common in older Porsche's. Really it was closer to 147K; not that big of a deal because now a close to 200 it still runs strong.
Then inspect the Turbo. Make sure that it is visually pleasing condition, no soot etc on the exterior of the unit or manifold. If so be forewarned that a rebuild may be necessary.
Lastly, but absolutely important be sure the title is just "damaged" and not "salvaged." A salvaged title can really screw up you ability to insure and even license that car.
Also be sure you do a FULL walk around inspection. Look underneath for cracks or abrasion to the undercarriage and frame. Also be sure you test-drive before you buy but those last 2 are given.
Hope it all works out for you! That’ll be one sweet ride! [sm=smiley20.gif]
And if you do buy don’t forget to bring us some pics.

Heidt, do yourself a favor... get a pre purchase inspection from a reputable porsche mechanic. pilkington obviously has no clue what he is talking about. read any of his posts here.. people are laughing about him and having fun at his own expense on otrher forums cause he is so far off.
