Default Another Clutch Question

Well here I am again, I managed to disasemble the clutch and put the new one in. I didn't assebmle all the parts back together, like the transmission, catalyst converter, exaust manifold, oxygen sensor is seperate as well. The problem is when I tried to turn on teh car to test it, it didn't want to start, the starter runs good but the engine won't start. My guess is that since I haven't connected all teh things back together there is something that is preventing it from starting until all teh componenets are back into place. Should I assemble everything back and try it or am I forgeting some wiring or sensors. There was one sensor on teh top side of teh clutch which I had to take out before removing the clutch, but I have no idea what it does; I did put it back into its place. So my main question is do all teh sensors and what not ahve to be connected for teh car to turn on, or should it still start even if only the clutch area is assembled. Thanks again,

So you did put the ring gear back on the pressure plate correct?

The speed and reference sensors on top of the bellhousing need to be in place and gapped correctly for the car to start. It will start without the tranny, torque tube, exhaust, etc.

Ok so I tried playing around with the sensor and no matter how I gap it it still won't turn the car on (I pulled it as far out as it will go and as far in, so any idea on how much gap there should be?). The starter rotates but the engine won't start, and the fuel pump doesn't seem to be getting electricity as well as the spark plugs. But when I circuit the fuel pump on teh relay I can hear it working. All teh control panel lights glow and when it starts they all turn off so I know that the key is functioning, alarm works, all electricity except sparks and fuel pump from what I can tell. Any other sensors to worry about, or what are the possible additional problems? Thanks again,

There needs to be exactly .8mm gap between the end of the sensor and the flywheel.

1988 944S, I am working on it right now and I got a nice view of it from teh top of teh car but can't access it, I have to do all adjustments from below, any way to measure the distance? It will go about 1cm up and than 1 cm down when I pull on it. We're about to try and take it off and try to remount. There is another hole right below it that looks like a hole for another sensor I suppose, we only have 1 right now there is no secondary at all. The car ran fine so I guess its not needed. The second hole has a smooth feel as if I am touching a smooth disc.
