I cannot remove the timing sensor. Its loose, turns freely and I have it pulled up about an 1/4 inch, yet it will not come out. I even sprayed it with WD-40. Amy suggestions?

I've replaced the sensors and my car is finally running!! Thank you so much to everyone that helped and gave advice. I'm truly thankful.

You need to establish which of the two sensors is bad. You dont need to replace both, but it sure wouldnt hurt.

One sensor is located at the top of the bell housing at the back of the engine over the flywheel, the other is on the back of the cam pully on the front of the engine.

That reply may or may not be correct. Drummer and I both have a 1983 944...both of my sensors were together...down below the oil cap, on top of the bell housing.

Go to http://www.clarks-garage.com/, and look at the shop manual, IGN-02, Speed and Reference Sensors - Checking, Replacement, and AdjustmentThis will show that both sensors are on top of the bell housing and give you the info on repacing them. there is also a trouble shooting section that may help.
