Default how to open hood

I'm trying to resurrect an '84 944, but it has both a dead battery and the hood won't open. I believe that that hood is cable operated - if so, what's the "easiest" way to get at the hood latch? Or, is there another option?

Default RE: how to open hood

Hmmm good question. The hood cable release is obviously by the drivers left foot, but if the cable or lever is broken, that could be a problem. I would pull apart the lever mechanism, and see if the cable is snapped at that end. If it is, you can probably get a visegrip on the cable and pull hard, and pop the hood.

If the cable has snapped at the other end, you are going to have to somehow get to it from underneath. The cable runs through the drivers side strut tower, so you may be able to remove the wheel and wheel liner and see it...again grab it with a pliers and you should be able to pull it open. I haven't tried that, but in theory it *should* be there and work.
