Default Polishing the intake with sand?

I heard this is VERY effective, and saves taking everything apart. All ive heard is that you hold the throttle open near redline and pour a few buckets of sand in through the intake. Mr Pilkington said this would net me an easy 100HP to the 17 inch wide tires I have on my car.

Who else has done this and what were your findings? Beach sand or sand from the neighbors yard?

I'd recommend silica sand filtered through a #00 sieve so the fineness is consistent. That's what I did on mine! MAN! The difference was amazing!

And actually it would be better at a lower teperature, so take it outside to do it. also, don't forget to use the hose to shoot all of the sand down the intake. And remember, REMOVE THE FILTER!!!!

Just a hint...use a vacuum cleaner bag on the tailpipe...it makes cleaning up afterwards so much easier.

I heard that small rocks work better than sand.

No !!! Don't use sand, it's much too fine and will clog your pores, leading to all sorts of blemishes. Use BBs instead! Yes, they're round and smooth and they're large enough not to get sucked into your engine. So they rattle around your intake and knock down all the nasty bumps on the inside and smoothes it out. Do search, there was a guy that rebuilt his Eclipse or something a couple years ago and he accidentally knocked a whole sleeve of BBs into his intake by accident. The best mods are found this way.

I've always used gun powder in my 917. Cleans it out real good.
