Should I get an '87 944?
I have the option to buy a 1987 Porsche 944, but dont know if it will be worth it. The owner said he would finance me if I put a $1600 down payment to him, he will finance the balance for me ($2900). I can use the money that I am not giving him to fix the small things I have found wrong with it. Is it worth it if I buy it being that it needs the following: rear seat belts, a stereo, rear seats needs to be redone with the leather, and other small interior things. From those of you who have a 944 is it going to be worth it to get this Porsche or should I keep looking? Any and all information is greatly appriciated. Thanks to all.

It really depends on the car. I would suggest either logging in at Rennlist and asking one of the experienced 944 guys in Houston to take a look at it with you (http://forums.rennlist.com/ and click on the link that says watercooled and then 944, one of the guys there will be happy to help you), or else pay to get a "pre puchase inspection" (aka PPI) done at a local shop that knows Porsche 944s.

$4500.00 for an 1887 944 NA with a bad interior and no rear seat belts? NO WAY! The car should be in great shape for that kind of money. I think the book value for a perfect low miles version is around $5000. Visit intellichoice.com and look up the car. A car with all of the problems you mentioned is more likely to have other problems. Sorry, but even a great 944 needs about a grand worth of maintenance right off the bat to keep it running and to give you piece of mind. Are the belts and water-pump in good shape? BTW, most 944's only have leather on the front seats - and then only on the front seating surfaces. Vinyl not only costs less than leather but it weighs less too (Porsche's excuse).
Take the car to a mechanic. It the rest of the car is in AMAZING shape then maybe... Honestly though, look in the paper there should be plenty of 944s for around $4500 that don't need much work at all (except for the maintenance I mentioned before).
