Just bought a 99 Boxster!
Good People,
I just bought a prestine 1999 Boxster with Sport Package. The original owner sold it to me with only 29K miles and it's a Washington State car so no sun damage. The interior and leather looks almost brand new! After looking at 16 Boxsters (most transplants from California) I decided to look for a local car with less sun/heat issues. I finally found one and it even has an extended comprehensive warranty until the end of '08.
Needless to say, I am very excited. I'm comforted in knowing that I have a warranty but is there anything I should know about these models, in particular a 1999 model? Are there any other good forums for Boxster owners? Where can I get the best prices on Porsche accessories?
And yes, I did use the forum search engine but with 5 kids, it gets a little crazy.

RE: Just bought a 99 Boxster!
Congrats, and welcome to the board. The biggest boxster board out there right now is 986forum.com. Also there is a board at Pete's Boxster Board, but the format is less than desirable.
Early boxsters tended to have issues with the Rear main seal leaking, and catastrophic engine failure due to intermediate shaft failure, or a slipped cylinder lining. These issues tend to rear their heads very early on, so with your mileage, you should be good. The occurance of these issues is also not nearly as high as the internet makes it seem. Typically you put in gas and oil, keep up on your general maintenance, and you just drive them. Good cars.

Thanks Doc. I do have a couple of questions. Yesterday I got a smog check and they also tested the seal on the gas cap. All passed. I also put in a tank of gas as well, making sure the cap was put on tight. Much to my dismay, the"check engine" lightcame on today after a full day of normal driving. Should i be concerned?
The only thing I noticed was that the engine was running a bit hotter than normal. Usually it's right at 180 degrees (which seems high) but today it got up to 190 but no more and no smoke or driveability issues. Is it normal for a 2.5 Boxster to run that hot? I live in Seattle and it was 50 degrees and raining all day.

I'm looking at a 97 boxster that was "driven while hot" and was wondering what all other than the head and valve gaskets and radiator hoses could be wrong with this thing? Also is it difficult to get the head off of these? I know there isn't much room back there. I live in the Japanese import world at the moment.
