Default Oil Change frequency

I am a new member. I bought my Boxster new in '05. It has 11K miles on it. I did the first 2 services at the dealer. The first was no charge and the second, at about 5-6k miles was an oil change that cost me $275. The car is taken off the road all winter and kept in my heated garage. I live in the northeast and the car never sees snow and very little rain for that matter. The dealer recommends changing the oil before each 'season' and this time wants to change the brake fluid as well at a total cost of a whopping $475!!!

1. Do I need an oil change after 5K miles since the last change and,
2. Do I need to change the brake fluid?

I am thinking no to both of these questions since I believe I can go 10K miles between oil changes at least.

What about my warranty?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Default RE: Oil Change frequency

Find an independant dealer. Oil change should cost no more than $125-140. It takes 9 quarts of mobil 1 oil, an OC128 filter, and 1 aluminum crush seal for the drain plug (18x22). It is a very easy DIY job, and takes no more than 15 minutes. $275 for an oil change is robbery.

To flush the brakes, figure book time of 1.2 hours and about $25 in fluid.
