RE: PORSCHE BOXSTER VS. HONDA S2000
first off - pretty good video...worth watching. Didn't change my opinion, but good to see.
Now, I owned a 2001 s2000 for almost 6 years, until my recent purchase of a 2001 911 turbo. I hated to sell my s2000, it was a great car, but I needed the cash for the 911. The s2000 was an outstanding car. I drove it 20,000 miles and had zero repairs or issues, other than oil and tires. Typical, boring honda. But this is not a boring honda, and yes, I drove the boxster and boxster S to compare them all. Notice I upgraded to the 911, not a boxster. A boxster is not an upgrade to a s2000. Many would call it better, it really depends on the stage in your life and what you expect out of the car. And to compare apples to apples, you really have to compare the 2001 s2000 to the 2001 boxster s, because the original boxster was way too underpowered. Recent years have really upped the hp in the porsche. That being said, If you can afford a porsche, get a 911 used instead of a boxster new. The boxster is the car that saved porsche, not made them. The 911 made them. It's where the engineering and heritage begins.
One of my good friends bought his boxster the same time I bought my s2000 and had thousands of dollars in repairs - convertible top motors, oil leaks, etc during his ownership. This is based on the 2002, older models. I have not driven the newer s2000 or boxster. Based on my knowledge, I would recommend the s2000 over a boxster all day. I'm sure there will be other who object, and to each his own - these two cars are commonly compared. check s2ki.com as well - ultimately, you need to drive the cars and decide yourself.
S2000 Pros:
low maintenance
great drivers car - you have to rev it. Many people don't understand that. I've ridden motorcycles 600/750, which you really have to rev to get the power from and the s2000 is no different. You can't let the rpm's fall. Typically, you are between 5 and 9k if you're driving it hard. Otherwise you are driving a civic when you are below 5000rpm.
Great gas mileage, if you don't redline every shift...I averaged 18 mpg when driven hard, 27 mpg on the freeway, cruising.
Low entry price - $33k new. Used from $15 for a good one.
Best 6 spd I have driven - close ratio, quick, clean
Low production car - at least it used to be...
S2000 cons:
boy racer image
Low torque - I have not driven the s2200(2.2 liter), I have heard it improved the car, but also made it less of a drivers car - more tame, traction control, the works...
honda - low status car compared to a porsche - if that's important to you...
Honda dealerships - I had too many bad experiences with just oil changes to forget that part...Take it to the acura dealership.
Loud, noisy (high revs)
Outdated - not fast enough for a 2008 model sports car. Honda has not really improved the car since release, similar to the nsx...but
Porsche Pros:
Torque
High quality interior, dash, etc.
Continually updated - porsche is devoted to improving the car

Someone posted this link in the other topic, it is about Boxster review, check it out

I have not driven a S2000 myself, but Honda S2000 and Porsche Boxster is not the same class of car in my opinion. Have you test drive both cars? Try the newer model Boxster S, at least 05, 06 or 07. I think the earlier model is underpower as a sport car. Once you drive it, it will speak for itself. The mid enginee Boxster is one of the best when cornering. However, if money is a factor, better go for the Honda, because the maintenance cost is day and night.
Have you watch the Boxster film on the Porsche site. It is pretty good. Lots of information about the car.

One thing you should consider, if you visit the S2000 forum, sure they will tell you S2000 rock, and if you visit the Prosche site, they will also tell you Boxster rock. What is important is which car make you smile everytime you start the enginee.
To me, Porsche does the job, not Honda.

RE: PORSCHE BOXSTER VS. HONDA S2000
What is your budget for maintenance?
2000 years model is an older model, so expect to spend more on maintenance. Have you find out the insurance cost? You are only 18, the insurance may be hight. A set of 4 tires for 06, 07 model will cost about $1400, and because the way the Porsche design, most people said the tires will last about 15,000 to 20,000 miles. Service once a year or every 10,000 miles can cost about $400 to $500. A 2000 model Porsche most likely don't have any more warranty, so every repair is out of your pocket.
